Το γάλα γαϊδούρας χρησιμοποιείται από την αρχαιότητα και έκτοτε έχει επαινεθεί για το εύρος των πλεονεκτημάτων που παρέχει στο δέρμα και τα μαλλιά.
Στην πραγματικότητα, η βασίλισσα της Αιγύπτου, Κλεοπάτρα, έκανε τακτικά μπάνιο με αυτό το συστατικό για να διατηρήσει νεανικό, όμορφο δέρμα. Το συνιστούσαν επίσης γιατροί όπως ο Ιπποκράτης για τις πολλές θεραπευτικές ιδιότητες που έχει για την υγεία και το δέρμα.
